  • Consider if everything you do, like traditions, policies, meetings, and activities, includes everyone so that everyone in your family or community can join in a healthy way. All it takes is for one person to take that first step and stick with it. For some, change is hard, but after making it a new routine they can come to enjoy it. For others, it can be a refreshing change, especially if they understand why, it is important.
    • Examples:
    • Instead of giving out candy for Halloween, consider giving out fruit,
    • In your the workplace, have a walk and talk to share ideas instead of serving donuts
    • Organize a 5k or dance for fundraising instead of selling candy
    • Make your fundraisers and concessions  based on your mission and healthy

2. Embrace Healthy Eating:

Make sure your meals, including breakfast and snacks, are balanced and healthy. Whether it’s at home, school, church, or work meetings, focus on serving foods that promote health and include everyone, considering dietary restrictions like diabetes.

Examples:

4. Stay Active Daily Together:

  • Incorporate regular physical activity into your routine, whether it’s walking to school or planning family and community walks for bonding and conversation. Pennsylvania is committed to having a park within ten minutes of every resident; form a community plan to make the park safe.

5. Manage Screen Time:

  • Develop a structured plan for screen use and limit screen time to encourage outdoor play and reduce nearsightedness in children.
    • Examples:
      1. Schedule specific times for checking email and being on the internet, with breaks scheduled for outdoor walks or journaling together.
      2.  Here’s a book to journal in: The World is Not Ready For You.
